SHRUB AND TREE MAINTENANCE

There is a right and a wrong way to prune shrubs.

I will bring you the techniques and tools to provide the right pruning for your custom needs.

New growth needing pruning. After pruning with hand snips rather than hedge shears.  Note the brick and windows are clear again.  Using hand snips on mature plants can maintain the exact height for upwards of 30 years

Formal appearance using hand snips.  This planting has been maintained in a healthy state for over 15 years.

Hedge shears proliferate top growth and cause shallow depth foliage. At each cut, new growth multiplies and ultimately overshadows interior foliage. For evergreen hedges, some of the interior branches should be removed to allow sunlight to reach interior foliage. Flowering shrubs should be thinned to allow sun penetration.

Needing pruning.          After pruning with hand snips.

Overgrown front planting of heavily wooded lot in the Roundtree subdivision. After pruning front shrubs.  Subtle changes give a neater appearance from street.
Before pruning front ornamentals.  Note:  Japanese Maples are so dense that they hide windows and house features. After thinning and reducing front ornamentals.  Note: Plant proportions and house features are improved while plants remain natural in appearance.
