Residential Landscape Plans

I offer custom designs that provide a quality setting for outdoor living.  Some clients need a design for their total property, others need only a portion of their lot designed.   My services range from planning the siting of home, drive and yard features for a newly purchased property to designing front landscaping for a custom-built or tract home.

My concept plans are easy to understand, they show both existing and new features including structures, plants, drives, landscape features and other important items.

Plan for home in mature woods.  Details of this plan included new entry boardwalk to eliminate two sets of steps, first steps down to lawn and then a second set of steps up to front entry.  Other designed features include new plantings, revisions to side deck and re-grading for better drainage. I designed and installed this landscape about 10 years ago in Warrendale, PA.

Revisions to existing deck and grounds  New plantings of trees, shrubs and flowers.  The existing deck was mainly in the line of sight from the living room and family room, it was unused and not attractive. Additionally the  existing railings reduced the possibility of off site views.  My scheme called for changing the purpose of upper deck to a landing through the removal of more than 60% of deck, resurfacing the remaining upper structure to blend the upper landing and grilling area with new broad steps to a new main deck nestled into a new on-grade garden, and creating a new lower patio with flower beds and generous arching steps to a revised play lawn. I designed and installed this landscape in 2004 in Gibsonia, PA.

Revisions to an existing bland rectangular deck with an empty rear yard as the primary view from the house and deck.  My design called for removal of a major section of the rectangular deck and reshaping of the deck to provide greater visual interest and access to new on ground activities.

An example of a front yard landscape.  This is for a spec house in the Gates of Highland Ridge.  Installed winter 2005.

I developed a welcoming front entrance with color, variety of sizes, and plants that can be seen from inside the home as well as from the street.

Existing embankment.

Sketch of

improvements showing curving planters, a fireplace worked into the hill, and a warming patio in front of the fireplace..

Note how the walls repeat the curves of the existing patio.  This gives the appearance that the house, patio, and treatment of the hill were all completed at the same time.
View of hill on May 10, 2007. View of same hill on November 3, 2007.  Note the large Oak tree behind the fireplace is the same tree shown on the left side of the previous image..
Left image shows the new warming patio in front of the fireplace.  Note the planters and the fireplace actually serve as retaining walls which reduce the visual impact of the original hill. The bare hill with its struggling perennials and faded mulch is gone for ever.
